Adapt to survive

Construction for the Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare began on the 7th November 1903.

In its 113 years, the pier has withstood the pounding waves of the sea, weathered fluctuating trends in tourism, and survived two fires in 1930 and 2008.

It has reinvented itself several times as a theatre and music hall, a shopping complex, a steam ship berth and an amusement arcade and continues to stand as a familiar landmark on the Somerset coast today.
