The lands around Gloucester have been farmed pretty much continuously since at least the early Saxon period from around the second century.
Gloucester was a hub for goods and livestock and by the 1800s was complete with a cattle market, where the bus station stands today.
Here, Brian Frith from the Barton St area recalls how the cattle used to be driven through the streets of Gloucester.
